Holy Week Webcast

Tuesday, March 26, 2013

Hope your Holy Week is going well!  Don't forget to try and get to confession before Easter, in an effort to prepare our hearts anew for the Lord.  The calendar at the right will tell you when there are confessions offered at St. Agnes this week.  In addition, any church in the diocese will be having confession on Wednesday night this week, as part of the "Light is On for You" program.

If you'd like something educational and edifying, you can view this webcast, about Holy Week and the Easter Vigil, and it's place in our lives of faith.  It features our parish's very own Scott Landry, a usual suspect at coffee hour on Sundays.  Enjoy!

Hope to see you at playgroup today!

Get to CONFESSION to prepare for EASTER! (Wednesday Evening Confessions available across the Diocese)

We are very blessed to announce that Fidelity House has agreed to host our group over the winter in one of their vacant rooms!

Thus, Tuesday playgroup will take place at Fidelity House, right near church: 25 Medford Street, from 10:30 am-12:30 pm.

  • There is a lot of sickness going around this winter.... please do not bring your children to playgroup if they are sick.
  • Please remember some behavior guidelines: No running out of the playroom, no kids in the toy closet, respect physical limits, use a time-out chair, please discipline your own children promptly.
  • Fidelity House is being very generous by letting us use this space. Please consider a donation to help with their costs. Minimum suggested donation is $1 per each person in attendance.
  • Please no food.... drinks in spill proof containers are OK.
Parking is on the street around Fidelity House. Check the street signs for the rules. Once you walk in the front door, go up the stairs, past the front desk, and to the back of the building. There is a door from the room to an outdoor courtyard, so bring your kids' coats too. We will also teach a brief lesson for the kids.

A Good Read

Wednesday, March 20, 2013

Why do we fast during Lent?  Here's a good article to get your noggin' thinking in these last days before Easter.  Enjoy, and don't forget about the Supper & Stations on Friday night!! (see right column)

http://catholicexchange.com/lent-the-teacher/

Don't forget Confession!

Tonight is one of the last Wednesdays before Easter that you will have the opportunity for confession during the "Light is On for You" evening programs (otherwise, it's on Saturdays).  Confession will be held in the Lower Chapel from 6:30-8:00 pm.

As we draw closer to Easter, we try to prepare our hearts for the risen Lord.  It is much like renewing any relationship... we make sacrifices, spend time reflecting upon improvement, seek to please the other, and we do penance for rifts that remain in the relationship.  The same is true for our relationship with Christ.  We offer sacrifices and prayer, seek God's will and how to do it more fully, and go to confession to set ourselves right with the Lord again.  It's an AMAZING GIFT to enjoy so close a relationship with the King of the Universe!

If you haven't yet been to confession, take advantage of the opportunity. Don't be shy -- this sacrament truly has the ability to bring so much grace and renewal into our lives. If you need help figuring out "how" to go to confession, visit www.thelightisonfor you.org

Mom's Night Tonight

Thursday, March 7, 2013

Mom's Night is tonight!  Call your hubbies and ask for the night off!

We will stuff Easter Eggs for the Easter Egg Hunt later this month. I would rather not publish the hostesses address, so please email me at saintagnesfamilies [at] gmail.com if you plan to come. We will kick it off with pizza and drinks at 7:00 pm.

Hope to see you there!

Local NFP

Tuesday, March 5, 2013

Attention Married Couples:

Would you like…
  • a natural, hormone-free way to postpone pregnancy?
  • to start a family or have another child?
  • to improve communication with your spouse?
  • to learn more about church teaching on "the Theology of the Body?"
  • to understand why the Bishops had such a big hubbub over the new HHS mandate?
Natural Family Planning (NFP) is an organic, chemical-free method that is just as effective as the Pill at postponing pregnancy and nearly twice as effective as IVF for achieving pregnancy. The divorce rate among couples that practice NFP is less than 2%.

Want to learn more? Josh and Meredith Phelps are teaching a 3-class NFP series starting in March in Arlington. Only a few spots are left! Email Meredith.Phelps [at] gmail.com for details.

Save the Date!

Monday, March 4, 2013

We hope to see you at playgroup tomorrow!

Also a few "heads up" events to mark on your calendars (also on the calendar at the right):

Mom's Night - THURSDAY, MARCH 7 - We will stuff Easter Eggs for the Easter Egg Hunt later this month.  I would rather not publish the hostesses address, so please email me at saintagnesfamilies [at] gmail.com if you plan to come.  We will kick it off with pizza and drinks at 7:00 pm.

Maple Syrup Tour - SATURDAY, MARCH 23 - We will stop by a nearby small-operations maple farm to see how maple syrup is made and sample some delicious offerings!!  (No, it is not a pancake breakfast).  The tour is free, donations gratefully accepted.  If our group gets over 15 people, I will need to schedule a tour, so please CLICK HERE if you plan on coming.  PLEASE NOTE: The boiler house has - yes - a huge, wood-burning boiler, filled with a gajillion gallons of boiling sap!  Young children will need to be carefully held by the hand.

Family Campout - WEEKEND OF JULY 12-14 - The location is TBA, but I promise 2 1/2 or fewer hours from Arlington.  I am hoping for a place where those without tents can rent a cabin / yurt, and those with tents can pitch as they desire.  This campout is to provide awesome fellowship and family fun for low-maintenance and low-cost.  We will write a rough schedule (i.e. breakfast, hike, swim, dinner, etc.), but we will NOT be planning a group effort of meals, caravan-ing, etc.  Each family needs to be responsible for planning the details and meal prep of their own "specific" camping plans.  Mark you calendars now, details are unfolding.....
